Filter channel
The Filter channel allows the Venafi Log server to block certain events or severity levels from being passed to other channels. To implement a Filter channel, you must configure the Filter Channel object as an intermediary channel between the event source and the final output channel. Typically, the Filter channel is used to filter events for a specific Notification Rule.
To filter the events returned by a Notification rule
- Create the Filter Channel object in the Channels folder located in the Logging tree.
-
On the Filter Channel object, configure the Target Channel attribute to point to the Channel object where you ultimately want the Notification Rule to output events.
For more information on the Log server configuration, see Managing the Log server.
-
In the Notification Rule object, configure the Target Channel attribute to point to the Filter Channel object.
When the Filter channel is selected as the Notification Rule target channel, the channel receives all events forwarded from the Notification Rule. It then filters the events and passes the filtered events to its own target channel.
In a broader implementation, you can even use the Filter channel to filter events logged to the central datastore. As with filtering a standard Notification Rule, you must use the Filter Channel object as an intermediary between the event source and the final output channel.
To filter the central log store
- Create the Filter Channel object in the Channels folder located in the Logging tree.
- Configure the Filter Channel object Target Channel attribute to point to the Default SQL Channel object.
-
In the Logging tree, configure the Trust Protection Platform Server object. Point the Logging Server attribute to the Filter Channel object.
For more information on the Log server configuration, see Managing the Log server.
-
In the Windows Services console, restart the Venafi Log Server service.
You must restart the Venafi Log Server service to implement the updated configuration in the Trust Protection Platform Log Server object.
