Viewing Log application objects and schemas

Log Application objects store the information the Log server requires to identify Log Applications. Log Application objects also store the associated application log schema.

NOTE  The log schema catalogs the events that can be logged by a given logging application. The log schema also defines static event data such as the event ID, description, and readable log text. You can customize a logging application event summaries in the corresponding Log Application object. For more information, see About the Log schema.

To view a Log Application object and its associated log schema

  1. From the Platform menu bar, click Policy Tree.

    You must have the Read permission to the Log Application objects in the Logging Tree.

  2. Select the Logging tree in the Tree drop-down menu.
  3. In the Logging tree, select the Event Definitions folder.

  4. Select a Log Application object.

  5. To see the object attributes and log schema, review the Detail view.

Description of the object logging application.

Name

Name for the Log Application object.

ID

A 4-digit pre-defined Component ID that identifies a group or application. All Component IDs, which are assigned through Venafi Development Services, are maintained in the Venafi Trust Protection Platform central registry.

NOTE  Before instrumenting a new logging application, developers should obtain an application ID through Venafi Development Services.

Schema

The log schema catalogs the events that can be logged by a given logging application. It also defines static event data such as the event ID, description, and readable log text. For more information, see About the Log schema.

Permissions tab

On the Permissions tab, you select the users or groups to whom you want to grant permissions to the current object. Then, you select which permissions you want the users or groups to have. You can also manage object permissions via parent objects, including the root Platform object or the Trust Protection Platform server object (found in the Platforms tree).

If you configure Permissions in a parent object, those permissions are inherited by all subordinate objects.
