Determining the number of Windows servers needed
In the System Requirements, the section "Number of Trust Protection Platform servers needed" gives information about the base number of Venafi servers your deployment requires. This value is based on the total number of certificates and SSH keysets you plan to actively monitor and manage. If Server Agents are used, then additional Venafi servers are needed.
If your network is complex, you will likely need more Venafi servers. For example, for network or onboard discovery of certificates and SSH keys, at least one Venafi server will require network access to the systems you wish to scan. If you plan to do validation, rotation, and installation of certificates and keys, those servers also need network access over the management port of the target system. If you want to provide high availability or disaster recovery service for the platform, you will need additional servers for those features.

In general, small deployments will frequently have between two and four Venafi servers. Larger deployments sometimes have 10 or more Venafi servers.
